Since 2003, Professor Dr. Paul J.A. Borm has been with the Centre of Expertise in Life Sciences (CEL) in Heerlen, The Netherlands. He earned his Ph.D. in 1984 from the University of Utrecht in The Netherlands. From 1998-2003, he was head of section, Particle Research, Institute for Environmental and Medical Research, University of Dusseldorf, Germany, in 2001. Before that he was Associate professor in Toxicology and Occupational Hygiene, University of Maastricht, (1988-1998). Professor Borm is member of several international expert groups and research programs that combine medicine, toxicology and nanotechnology. Since october 2008, Paul Borm combines his work at Zuyd University with the position of CEO at MagnaMedics Diagnostics BV, located at the Chemelot Campus in Geleen. His aim for a sustainable nanotechnology is the driver between this combination of activities.
Paul Borm is editor-in-Chief of Particle and Fibre Toxicology (www.particleandfibretoxicology) and has published more than 160 peer reviewed publications, and has been the recipient of millions of dollars in extramural research support from various government, EU and private sources. His research interests relate to the effects of (nano) particles on the brain. He is active at the interface of Life Sciences and Nanotechnology, and contributes to a sustainable development of both. Building bridges between science and private entreprises is his major motivation.
